Many families are working hard to manage household costs, including rising utility bills. The good news is that NV Energy offers a free Qualified Appliance Replacement (QAR) Program that can help eligible customers lower energy use and save money. Through this program, qualifying households may receive new ENERGY STAR® appliances and other energy-saving products at no cost.
The Qualified Appliance Replacement Program is part of NV Energy’s PowerShift offerings, which are designed to help customers use energy more efficiently. Older appliances often use much more electricity than newer models. By replacing outdated equipment with energy-efficient models, families can reduce monthly energy costs while improving the comfort and convenience of their homes.
What Does the Program Provide?
Eligible participants may receive new ENERGY STAR appliances to replace older, less efficient equipment. Available replacements may include:
These improvements can help reduce electricity consumption and support lower utility bills over time. Since the program is offered free of charge to qualified customers, it can make a meaningful difference for families who may not otherwise be able to afford appliance upgrades.
Who Qualifies?
To participate in the Qualified Appliance Replacement Program, applicants must meet several requirements.
First, you must be a current residential NV Energy customer who owns or rents a home served by an NV Energy electric meter. Applicants must provide a copy of an NV Energy electric bill from within the past three months. Renters may also participate but must obtain permission from their property owner or property manager.
Second, the appliance being replaced must meet age requirements. Current refrigerators, freezers, washers, and electric dryers generally must have been manufactured in or before 2013 to qualify for replacement. Applicants must provide the appliance model and serial number so the age can be verified.
Third, households must meet income guidelines or participate in certain approved assistance programs. NV Energy uses household size and annual gross household income to determine eligibility. Household income includes the combined gross income of household members who are age 15 or older and live together.
Income Qualification
Income limits vary by county and household size. For example, according to NV Energy's current program information, a three-person household may qualify with maximum annual income limits generally ranging from about $68,650 to $84,150 depending on the county. Larger households have higher income limits. Applicants should review the most current income chart provided with the application materials to determine eligibility.
Participants in Assistance Programs May Also Qualify
Some households may already be eligible if they participate in one or more of 20+ approved community assistance programs. Examples include:

Why This Program Matters for Nevada Families
For many families, replacing a refrigerator, washer, or dryer can be a major expense. Older appliances are often less efficient and can increase monthly electricity costs. The Qualified Appliance Replacement Program helps remove financial barriers by providing free upgrades to eligible households.
For families with young children, every dollar saved on utility bills can help support other household needs. Energy-efficient appliances may also offer improved performance, reliability, and convenience. Through this program, eligible households can benefit from lower energy usage while helping create a more energy-efficient future for Nevada.
