Affordable Housing Programs offered by Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority (SNRHA)
Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program (Section 8) is a rental housing assistance solution that places choice in the hands of the individual or family to find rental housing in the private market. The program, also known as Section 8, was designed by the federal government to assist low-income families, elderly, and disabled individuals in affording decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses or apartments. Participants may choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and are not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects. Available to individuals and families with a household income lower than 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
Public Housing Communities, managed by the SNRHA, offer safe and affordable housing options for low-to-moderate-income families, individuals, seniors, and persons with disabilities. SNRHA proudly owns and operates multiple properties throughout Southern Nevada, providing thousands of housing units to meet the diverse needs of the community. To be eligible for Public Housing, applicants must have a household income that is at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
Affordable Housing Communities are made up of affordable rental housing properties owned by SNRHA for low-to-moderate income families and individuals. This program is non-aided, meaning the focus is on local resources and partnerships rather than federal funding, aiming to provide affordable housing through different mechanisms. Eligibility is determined by each community.
Rental Assistance Demonstration/Project Based Voucher (RAD/PBV) Housing Communities assign vouchers (rental assistance) to specific housing units rather than to the tenant. The tenant pays 30% of their adjusted gross income toward rent and SNRHA pays the difference. Available to individuals and families with a household income lower than 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
