Housing assistance programs offered by Nevada Rural Housing (NRH) include:
Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program (Section 8) is a rental housing assistance solution that places choice in the hands of the individual or family to find rental housing in the private market. The program, also known as Section 8, was designed by the federal government to assist low-income families, elderly, and disabled individuals in affording decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses or apartments. Participants may choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and are not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects. Available to individuals and families with a household income lower than 50% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
Security Deposit Program offers eligible applicants up to $1,000 toward their security deposit. The assistance is a federally funded grant and does not have to be paid back. The Security Deposit Program is an alternative to security deposit payment plans. Availability is dependent upon funding. Check the website for additional information and current availability.
Emergency Rental Assistance Program is available to renters in NRH jurisdictions who are facing eviction or utility shut-off for non-payment. Must meet income qualifications, not owe any money to NRHA and reside in the unit that is requiring assistance. At least one household member must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and unit must meet current payment standards.
Project Based Vouchers (PBV) are available for two communities - Mountain View in Winnemucca and Crestmore Village in Gardnerville. Clients must apply when the waitlist for these properties is open. Check website or contact NRH for additional information.
