The Washoe County School District (WCSD) created Parent University to offer workshops to help families build upon skills, knowledge and support systems to advocate for student success.
WCSD built a custom library of video clips in English and Spanish to provide families with the foundational skills needed for success in learning to read in elementary school. Visit the District’s Parent University webpage to access the literacy tip sheets, videos and more!
The videos explain how to support that specific skill for a specific grade level. The videos are categorized by grade level bands including Kindergarten-1st, 2nd-3rd, and 4th-5th.
Each literacy topic is also accompanied by a printable “tip sheet” which families can use to work with their child on that specific skill.
Although this project was created by Washoe County School District, the videos and tip sheets are available for any family to use and access for free. Feel free to use this resource today and share it with a K-5 family you know!
