Honoring the caregivers who nurture, teach and support our youngest learners
Every day, child care providers play a vital role in the lives of young children and their families. From welcoming little ones each morning to supporting early learning, social-emotional growth, and daily routines, these dedicated professionals help lay the foundation for lifelong success.
Each spring, families across the country come together to say “thank you” during Child Care Provider Appreciation Day, an annual celebration recognizing the essential work of child care providers and early childhood educators.
What Is Child Care Provider Appreciation Day?
Child Care Provider Appreciation Day is observed each year on the Friday before Mother’s Day.
Established in 1996, the day shines a spotlight on the dedication, skill, and commitment of child care providers who care for and educate young children in homes, centers and community settings.
These professionals are often described as the workforce behind the workforce — supporting families so parents and caregivers can go to work knowing their children are safe, nurtured and learning in a supportive environment.
Why Child Care Providers Matter So Much
For families with infants, toddlers and preschoolers, child care providers are trusted partners. They:
Their work is meaningful, complex and deeply impactful—yet it often happens behind the scenes. Child Care Provider Appreciation Day is a chance to pause and recognize just how much they do.
Simple Ways Families Can Show Appreciation
Showing appreciation doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. What matters most is that it’s sincere.
Here are a few easy, family-friendly ideas:
Say “Thank You”
A handwritten note or card from you—or artwork from your child—can mean the world. Encourage your child to help decorate a picture or share what they love about their provider.
Share Kind Words
A heartfelt conversation at drop-off or pick-up goes a long way. Let your provider know how much you appreciate their care, patience and consistency.
Share Gratitude Publicly
Post a short message of thanks on social media using #ProviderAppreciationDay. Highlight how your provider supports your child and family.
Small Tokens of Thanks
If you’re able, consider a small gesture like a coffee, snack, plant or gift card—always thoughtful, never expected.
Support in the Community
Advocate for policies and programs that support accessible, high-quality child care. Appreciation can also mean lending your voice to strengthen the systems that support providers.
A Collective Thank You
Child care providers give young children a strong start and help families thrive. On Child Care Provider Appreciation Day—and every day—we honor their dedication, compassion and commitment to our children and communities.
