Recent Changes to the Nevada Ready! Pre-K Program Eligibility Requirements
You can learn more about the Nevada Ready! PreK Program in our June 2024 article, 5 Things to Know: Nevada Ready! PreK Program. However, the Nevada Legislature recently made some changes to the eligibility requirements for the program that are effective as of July 1, 2025.
Nevada Ready! PreK Eligibility Requirements Effective July 1, 2025:
Federal Poverty Level: You can learn more about FPL by clicking here. This amount increased from last year, which means more families may qualify for the program. It is also important to remember that the FPL amounts change every year. Use the link above to access the most recent FPL chart. The 250% column will be used to verify income eligibility for the Nevada Ready! PreK program.
Vulnerable and Historically Unserved Populations: The law that created the new eligibility criteria (SB460) did not include a definition of “vulnerable and historically underserved population”. If your child does not qualify under any of the other criteria listed, check with your local PreK program to ask if your child may qualify as a member of a vulnerable and historically underserved population. Please be patient - this is a new eligibility criteria for the state and many school districts and programs may still be working on definitions to use for this item.
Not All Children Who Are Eligible Will Be Enrolled: Keep in mind that even though your child may qualify for the program due to income or one of the other eligibility factors, it does not mean that your child will get a seat. Funding for this program remains limited and there are not enough resources to serve all children who qualify throughout the state.
However, there are other funding sources available in some school districts to support access for more children. It is important to check with your local school district to see what resources they have available.
